Origin Story

A few years into practice, a patient ask me if he could come back for more help even if he was still pain free.
I had to tell him ‘no.’
He would have to wait for pain before he could get help.

Meanwhile, I was using the same principles to further my power, endurance, and resiliency to compete in ultra-marathons.

Why couldn’t he?

In 2018, I left that system.

–

I have seen some things:

Care driven by numbers.
Private practice.
Corporate structure.
AI-driven care.

People tired of getting lost in the wake.

–

The Pandemic broke open so many things:

The ladders we climb.
The wanting to belong to that group.
The path that seemed safe and small.

How we can see and choose better for ourselves.

–

“Here is Edward Bear, coming downstairs now, bump, bump, bump, on the back of his head, behind Christopher Robin. It is, as far as he knows, the only way of coming downstairs, but sometimes he feels that there really is another way, if only he could stop bumping for a moment and think of it.”
– AA Milne

Mission: Teach those who want to change their lives.

About Adam

A bit more…

From early beginnings – growing up in the small town of Detroit, to my current home in Grand Rapids, Michigan, I have found movement and teaching to be two main themes throughout my work.

From team sports, to weight lifting, to running, to marathons and ultra marathons – my course of activity transitioned from the power of team, dedication, to the power found within, technique, form, discipline, wisdom, and perseverance to push limits.

From tutoring in college to teaching graduate students, to creating and running mentorship programs for physical therapists; honing skills, clinical mindset, and the like.

From working within the largeness of health care to creating opportunity, growth, and lasting change for people beyond big systems.

From working on patients to teaching and equipping clients as colleagues, working with those that want to learn how to improve their own health and longevity.

From working within management models large and small to empowering leaders and teams to navigate in a healthy, sustainable work environment.

From perpetual journal-er to published author.

'Learning to Unlearn'

Adam’s first book!

And soon enough, I published my first book, ‘Learning to Unlearn.’ The book walks through this process, giving more detail and insight.
‘Learning to Unlearn‘ takes readers through the observations of:
The ego, loyal solider, and persona via connections through the enneagram.
How a religious narrative can be co-opted to produce a people who feel less than, excluded, and needing to produce in order to be validated, accepted, and fulfilled.
The false narrative of the success ladder, and its connection to how we are taught to exploit and mis-use or gifts as a means to prove our identity and earn our belonging.
How we have reduced the greater truths of life to tangible concepts and winnable games and prizes.
The expansive human consciousness – through explorations of spiral dynamics.
How technology and media shape our thought processes, expectations, habits, and desires.
The constraints of conventional constructs –
Intertwining with the narrative of a Doctor of Physical Therapy and Ultra-Marathon Competitor’s climbing, struggles, successes, and failure within all of the aforementioned –
Written through a combination of prose and poetry,
Readers are invited to see beyond the disruption and disconnect
To rediscover the truer nature of who they are and
To reconnect to the joyful, integrated beings they have been the whole time.

“Reconstructing that which you carry,
use, and see – a process that may help you realign
or see something anew –
May help you put to rest
some things that no longer are of good use,
and are actually weighing you down.”
– page 199. Learning to Unlearn
